Synopsis

Ireland and Brazil: A Cultural Dialogue is a collaborative project by the Alliance of Chairs of Irish Studies in Latin America. The volume opens with an account of Irish artist Rita Duffy’s academic trip to UNAM, USP and UNLPam where she was engaged in artistic work. Structured in five chapters, the book takes the reader on an exciting journey that highlights the crossing paths of enduring connections between Brazil and Ireland by exploring themes such as history, literature, theatre, cinema, visual arts, sports and scientific achievements. This publication is aimed at young adults and the general public interested in Irish culture.

Author Biographies

Laura Patricia Zuntini de Izarra, Universidade de São Paulo. Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas

Full Professor at the University of São Paulo, coordinator of the W. B. Yeats Chair, and advisory member of the Brazilian Association of Irish Studies (ABEI). Her main research and publications are in Irish Studies and the relationship between Ireland and Latin America, contemporary Irish literature, diaspora literatures, post/decoloniality, cultural trauma, and memory studies.

Mariana Bolfarine, Universidade de São Paulo. Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas

Researcher in the field of Irish Studies, with a focus on Roger Casement and on contemporary Irish fiction She is the vice-coordinator of the W. B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies and an advisory member of the Brazilian Association of Irish Studies (ABEI). She teaches at the Federal University of Rondonópolis (UFR) and in the graduate programs at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) and the University of São Paulo (USP).
