Synopsis

Due to its activities in teaching, research, extension and management, University of São Paulo gathers various collections of distinct natures. These collections consist of sets of documents of diverse types distributed across laboratories, departments, libraries, archives, museums, memory centers, and spaces for scientific and cultural dissemination, among others. Profoundly interconnected with the core activities of the university, these collections play a fundamental role in the formation of new students and researchers, the development of scientific research, and the dialogue with social groups external to the university. Ranging from works of art to fossils, from exsiccata to rocks, from audiovisual works to fashion pieces, and from paper documents to advanced digital technology artifacts, this represents a rich and vast universe of objects intimately linked to university life and communication with external audiences. This new edition of the Guide to the Museums and Collections of the University of São Paulo presents 70 collections distributed across the various schools, colleges, departments, museums, institutes, and
agencies of the university. In this edition, the collections are organized according to the USP Unit to which they are affiliated, which are, in turn, presented in alphabetical order. This survey is aligned with the activities of inventorying and documenting the cultural heritage of USP, developed by the Cultural Preservation Center ‒ Casa de Dona Yayá, and further information can be found in our digital databases.
